Obviously, no one plans for dental emergencies. That’s why they are emergencies. When you have a dental emergency, your first impulse may be to panic. You may be asking yourself if the damage is permanent, or at least wondering how bad it is. You may be thinking about how long you will have to let people see you with damage to your teeth.
But the first thing you need to do is to call our dentist, Dr. Justin J Deutsch at 215-643-9430 to schedule an emergency appointment. While you are waiting to see the dentist, there are some things you can do to mitigate the situation.
If a tooth has been knocked out, locate it if you can. Handle it only by the crown, not by the roots. You should try to put it back in the socket. If that isn’t possible keep it in a container your own saliva or milk. If you can fit it back in, you should bite down gently on a piece of clean gauze or a moist tea bag. If you break a tooth, you should call our office, and then gently rinse the area with a solution of water and salt. You can take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed. You should follow the same steps for a toothache.
